Hi, I’m Hiep Nguyen, a software engineer based in Hanoi, Vietnam.

By day I build frontends. Before that I wrote Node.js services, and I’ve been steadily moving back toward the server side: learning Go, holding a CKAD, and treating my home network as a lab for the infrastructure work I want to do more of. The common thread is wanting to understand the whole stack under a thing, not just the layer I was hired to touch.

That instinct leaks into my spare time. My home network runs on a MikroTik router I segmented into six VLANs with a default-deny firewall between them, and DNS for the whole house goes through a pair of AdGuard Home instances I run in Docker. None of it is necessary. All of it taught me something I’ve since used at work.

This site is the same idea applied to publishing: a hand-rolled Hugo project with no theme, no JS framework, and no bundler, deployed to GitHub Pages on every push. If you’re curious how it’s put together, that post walks through the whole layout.
